There’s always an adjustment period for actors and new roles. Some more than others. Anna Silk, for example, the Fredericton-born star of Lost Girl, was naturally thrilled to have won the part of Bo, the series protagonist. But quite early on, “she finds out she’s part of a Fae underworld and a succubus.”

A succubus being, of course, someone who feeds off the sexual energy of others. And can unfortunately kill them while doing so...

It was quite a learning curve,Silk says, chuckling a little at the memory. But she also remembers the parallel between her character and her job. “Getting the role, being the lead, everything was so shiny and new,” she says, “that made me feel a bit insecure.

But then one day there was a scene in which Bo was uncertain and hesitant about these new powers she discovered, and I realized that’s where I should be in terms of the acting. I should embrace that...
